LED Conversions

You used to buy bulbs based on wattage. You just knew that a 75 watt incandescent bulb would adequately light the space. Then came fluorescents and compact fluorescents (CFL’s) that could generate the same light intensity (lumens) with a fraction of the watts. Now, LED lights can generate the same lumens as CFL’s with even fewer watts, and in a variety of usable colors.

In the last 20 years, light-emitting diode (LED) lamps have advanced from being indicators on consumer electronics, to an increasingly versatile and efficient lighting source. LED lighting has the potential to provide high efficiency, durability, and extremely long life. As the technology becomes more accepted in the market, its uses are expanding and costs are becoming more competitive with other light sources. Manufacturers are developing new products daily.

What are the advantages of switching to LED?

The advantages of switching to LED are numerous. Here are just some of the benefits: LEDs use much less electricity than other bulbs, have extremely long rated lives, produce very little heat, do not emit UV or infrared, contain no mercury, are resistant to shock and vibration, and can operate effectively in extremely cold environments.
